Jeepers Creepers

Jeepers Creepers was released on August 31st, 2001.
Filming locations include Dunnellon, Ocala, Lake Panasoffkee and Reddick, FL.
Despite your personal feelings towards anyone associated with the film, there's no denying Jeepers Creepers' originality. I instantly liked it, mostly due to the desolate feeling it conveyed, the freshness of a not so fresh new horror villain and having Gina Philips didn't hurt either. The film's score was average but the overall soundtrack was good thanks to a couple golden oldie's in Paul Whiteman's Jeepers Creepers (1938) and Henry Hall's Hush, Hush, Hush, Here Comes the Bogeyman (1932) which really seemed to fit the tone of the film.

Opening and most of the driving scenes - SW 180th Avenue Rd. Dunnellon, Fl. 34432

In this shot they're driving North.

In this shot they're driving South. The filmmakers really utilized this stretch of highway.

Director Victor Salva must've loved the look of this tree because it's shown repeatedly in various shots throughout the film.

And here...

And here...

As a matter of fact he liked it so much that he even had Darry (Justin Long) urinate next to it,
which my friend Joe diligently reenacted in my 'Now' photo.

Church - formerly* 3602 SW 110th Ave. Ocala, Fl. 34481
This was an authentic former church named the St. James Church but it was closed down and sat abandoned for quite some time prior to filming. A few years after the film's release the church burned down. Some people suspect it was the doing of former New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who had a horse farm just to the south of the church property, allegedly because he was tired of fans of the film coming to visit the church so frequently. Many of the trees that surrounded the church also burned down along with it.

This pipe is possibly all that remains from the church.

The Creeper runs Trish and Darry off the road - Just north of the SW 180th Avenue Rd. and SW County Hwy. 484 intersection

Opper's Diner - 4629 FL-44 Lake Panasoffkee, Fl. 33538
The diner was named after producer Barry Opper. The road in front of the diner was just a two lane highway
at the time of filming but has since been converted into a four lane split highway.

Poho County Sheriff's Dept. - 15150 NW Gainsville Rd. Reddick, Fl. 32686
Formerly Reddick High School. The school was in operation from 1927 to 1964. Exteriors and most of the interiors,
with the exception of the holding cell's and the room where the Creeper crashes out the window with Darry, were filmed here.

Ending - 315 NE 14th St. Ocala, Fl. 34470
Formerly White's Meat Packing, operations ceased in the early 80's. Both exterior and interior shots were filmed here. The structure seen in the film was demolished no more than two years after filming and in 2006 iGlobal Logistics & Technology Center was erected in it's place. This was one location I would've loved to visit before it was razed.

Here's an aerial photo of the building before it was demolished.

The Creeper's truck.
As far as I'm concerned the truck is as important as any location in the film, it's absolutely menacing. A huge thanks to Tom for unleashing "JC" for a bit and allowing me to photograph and even do a ride along.

BEATNGU          www.thecreepertruck.com          FB/thecreepertruck

"Purchased in October 2008, the creepers truck was delivered from Ocala, Florida where the filming of Jeepers Creepers took place. Restoration began in 2008 starting with sheet metal repair and replace. Time and care was the focus to maintain the original character and charm of the truck as well as preserve as much of the original structure as possible. A more driven restoration started in 2011 with the replacement of the box sides and top to remove cancerous rust. A 383 small block Chevy motor was chosen for power, backed by a 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission. Power steering and power disc brakes were added. It was repainted with hardened automotive paint. An enormous amount of time was taken when painting the truck to insure all of the movie patina choices were preserved. Everything is now new or rebuilt. The restoration was finished in late 2016. BEATNUG was shipped to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and worked for the franchise filming Jeepers Creepers 3."

Office Space was released into theaters on February 19th, 1999. Filming locations include Austin and Dallas, Tx. It was written and directed by Mike Judge, who's also responsible for creating the animated shows Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill. The soundtrack features a variety of music genres that include classical, country, mambo, rap and rock. The films first DVD release was on August 31st, 1999.

Peter drives to work - Braker Ln. Austin, Tx. 78759 (between Domain Dr. and Burnet Rd.)

Not shot on a freeway, but a high traffic three lane road. In 2017 the Domain Tower was built in the general area of filming, but the McDonald's sign can still be seen in the distance today. The building seen across the street as Peter first switches lanes is the Bureau of Economic Geology.

Initec - 4120 Freidrich Ln. Austin, Tx. 78744

With one of the exceptions being the scene where Peter knocks down his cubicle walls for an outside view, this location was primarily just used for the exterior shots of Initec. The building occupant at the time of my visit was DunAn Microstaq Inc, who moved into the building in 2013. Also, the drainage ditch that Bob, Michael, Peter and Samir walk across on their way back from lunch is just southwest of the building.

Lawrence and Peter's apartments - 10610 Morado Circle Austin, Tx. 78759
(Great Hills apartments)

The apartments were constructed in 1986. I'm speculating the reason these were chosen for the actual apartments is because of the way the doors are so close to one another, making it easier for the audience to imagine the walls being so thin, therefore giving the impression that Lawrence and Peter could basically hear everything that's said or done in the other's apartment.

Chotchkie's (exterior) - 9739 Great Hills Trail Austin, Tx. 78759

The building was constructed in 1985. At the time of my visit, it was a Chase Bank branch. The tall protruding building in the background is an AT&T Labs Research Institute.

Chotchkie's (interior) - 3003 S. Lamar Blvd. Austin, Tx. 78704

At the time of my visit, it was Baker St. Pub & Grill. When I stopped by, I also grabbed a bite to eat and I recommend it to anyone looking for good food, friendly service and a cool European atmosphere. The interior has been remodeled so not too much is recognizable from the film.

Tom's house - 1603 Glen Rose Chase Pflugerville, Tx. 78660

The house was built just a few years prior to filming. The water tower seen from the backyard was there prior to the neighborhood being constructed. The owner of the house during my visit was a nervous little guy who didn't seem to like the idea of Office Space fans visiting his house, so don't expect too much hospitality if you visit this location. There was even a "No Loitering" sign on the front porch.

Hoosiers

Hoosiers was released into theaters on November 14th, 1986. Filming locations include Crawfordsville, Knightstown, Lebanon, New Richmond and Terhune, In. The film was directed by David Anspaugh, who would go on to direct another inspirational underdog sports film seven years later in Rudy. Gene Hackman played the lead of Coach Norman Dale. It's been well documented over the years how problematic Hackman was for Anspaugh during filming, even driving the first time film director to the brink of a nervous breakdown. Dennis Hopper was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Shooter. Jerry Goldsmith wrote and composed the films score, also earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score. The films first DVD release was on December 9th, 1997.

Bridge Coach Dale drives over - County Rd. 175 East Crawfordsville, In. 47933

The 192 foot long iron truss bridge had been there since 1913, but was removed in 1991 and replaced with a more modern bridge. He was traveling north over Sugar Creek.

Store Coach Dale stops at - North 1000 East Terhune, In. 46069 (between Harrison St. and E. Sims St.)

Downtown Hickory - Washington St. and Wabash St. New Richmond, In. 47967
(New Richmond, Indiana)

When Coach Dale is first driving into town he's traveling south on North 400 West or Wabash St. The 335 population town fully embraces it's Hoosier history and there are numerous reminders throughout the small community. Today, the barber shop in the film is the Hickory Cafe, located at 102 Washington St.

Hickory Huskers gym - 355 N. Washington St. Knightstown, In. 46148
(Hoosier Gym)

The gym was built on December 1st, 1921 for the Knightstown Community School. Renovations were done to the gym in 1932 and 1952. In 1966, the gym closed due to a new school and gym being built for the Knightstown Panthers and for the next nineteen years it was used sparingly. By 1988, even with the success and popularity of the film, the gym faced possible demolition, until Historic Knightstown and Historic Landmarks of Indiana stepped forward to help preserve the gym. Today, in addition to serving as a museum for the movie, the gym hosts high school teams from around the country. It attracts roughly 70,000 tourists per year. Visitors are taken on tours of the gym and locker room and they're even allowed to play basketball on the court themselves. The gym is kept looking like it did in the film and it's very well maintained, while still keeping that old school charm. The staff is also very accommodating and knowledgeable about it's history.

Swimming scene - 100 Blue Hole Ln. Wimberley, Tx. 78676
(Blue Hole Regional Park)

In 2005, the city of Wimberley embarked on a mission to save the Blue Hole from the threat of residential development. After a fundraising effort, the land was purchased by the city for use as a community park. The spot is such a popular swimming destination that during the summer months a reservation system was put into place. An interesting thing about the Blue Hole is that while one side is a regional park open to the public, the other side of the swimming hole is private property, with "No Trespassing" signs all along the bank.

Southeast Texas University - 601 University Dr. San Marcos, Tx. 78666
(Texas State University)

The university was established in 1899 and opened in 1903 to 303 students. Today, it has over 38,000 students. The scene with Dale, Finnegan, Jake and Plummer walking along was filmed between the north and south Academic Services Buildings, next to The Den food court. The scene near the end of the movie, where Beverly and Jake are walking to class together, was filmed on the north side of Flowers Hall, next to the LBJ Statue.

RoboCop (1987)

RoboCop was released into theaters on July 17th, 1987. Filming locations include Dallas, Tx. Filming ran from August 6th, 1986 to November 8th, 1986. It was directed by Paul Verhoeven, who also directed Sci-Fi genre films Total Recall, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man. Verhoeven also makes two cameos in the film. The first occurs when RoboCop is searching through the computer for Emil's face, one of the other faces is his. The other being at the club right after Leon kicks RoboCop in the groin, it briefly cuts to a man laughing hysterically, which was that of Verhoeven. Apparently that was the director demonstrating what he wanted some of the actors to do for the scene, he ended up liking it so much he kept it in the film. The lead of RoboCop was played by Peter Weller, who would go on to reprise his role in RoboCop 2, there years later. RoboCop's gun in the film was a modified Beretta M93R. The background music for the films theatrical trailer was actually the score from The Terminator. Both films were distributed by Orion. Basil Poledouris did the score for the film. The films first DVD release was in 1998 as part of the Criterion Collection.

Detroit Police precinct (exterior) - 2218 Bryan St. Dallas, Tx. 75201

Formerly Dallas High School. Designed by architect firm Lang & Witchell, the three and a half story building was erected in 1907. The school closed in 1995. On February 20th, 1996 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Detroit Police precinct (interior) - 3414 Elm St. Dallas, Tx. 75226
(Sons of Hermann Hall)

The structure was built in 1911. It's registered as a Dallas Historic Landmark and a State of Texas Historic Landmark. The downstairs portion of the building serves as a bar while the upstairs portion is a dance hall. The police precinct interior was filmed in the upstairs portion. The doors were brought in and installed solely for the film. Those same doors still remain to this day. You'll even pass by a RoboCop poster while walking up the stairs. Aside from RoboCop, a scene from Dallas season two episode John Ewing III: Part 2 was filmed in the first floor meeting room. Also, in 2002 auditions for American Idol were held there and it's where Kelly Clarkson passed her first audition for the show.

A number of buildings in the scene have been torn down over the years, starting with the building in the background with the long orange neon light, which was demolished in 2013. Then, in 2014 the building with the "Girl" and "Open" orange neon light signs was demolished. And again in 2019, when a portion of the building that's directly behind the thugs when RoboCop arrives was removed in order to make room for the widening project for Cesar Chavez Blvd.

City Hall - 106 S. Harwood St. Dallas, Tx. 75201

Designed by architect C.D. Hill, it opened on October 17th, 1914. After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and jailed in the building on November 22nd, 1963. Two days later, he was fatally shot by Jack Ruby in the basement garage while being led out by police. Dallas City Hall vacated the structure in 1978 and at the time of my visit the building still looked mostly vacant. The structure is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The plot of holding Mayor Gibson and his staff hostage in the film was derived from the actual real life incident in San Francisco in 1978 where former San Francisco Board of Supervisors member Dan White, killed Mayor Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.

Emil encounters RoboCop - Arts Plaza and Ross Ave. Dallas, Tx. 75201

The gas station was torn down in 2007 but the building that stood behind it in the film is still there. I took my comparison picture from the shoulder of the US-75 which overlooks the area.

OCP - 1500 Marilla St. Dallas, Tx. 75201
(Dallas City Hall)

The structure was built in 1978 and replaced the old Dallas Municipal Building which served as City Hall for RoboCop. I.M. Pei's modernist inverted design is a result of space requirements from city government. Public areas and citizen services required much less space than offices that ran the government and overhanging the upper floors allowed them to be larger than the public spaces below. The building slopes at a 34 degree angle, with each of the seven above-grade floors being nine and a half feet wider than the one below. The foundation and basement levels are considerably wider than the apparent footprint of the structure, extending out beneath the inclined fascade. Matte work by Rocco Gioffre was used to make the structure appear much larger than it actually was.

OCP elevators - 600 N. Pearl St. Dallas, Tx. 75201
(Plaza of the Americas)

Construction on the structure started in 1978 and finished in 1980. The complex features a Marriott and two stories of retail shops enclosed in a 120,000 sq. ft. skylighted atrium. It's thirteen stories tall and just like the OCP exterior, matte work by Rocco Gioffre was used to give the illusion it went much higher.

Hotel Broslin (entrance/lobby) - 80 Franklin St. New York, NY. 10013

For the reception desk, the filmmakers propped open the buildings elevator doors and assembled a small desk set. The stairs the actors would start to walk up, right next to the desk, were actually there. However, the up-stairs hallway and rooms were all constructed elsewhere.

The filmmakers hung the neon "Hotel Broslin" sign from the fire escape and removed it once filming had concluded.
