Pet Sematary Two was released into theaters on August 28th, 1992. Filming locations include Lithonia and Senoia, Ga. Filming ran from January 13th, 1992 to March 5th, 1992. It was directed by Mary Lambert, who also directed the original Pet Sematary, three years prior. The lead of Jeff Matthews was played by Edward Furlong, in only his second film. His first was Terminator 2, just one year earlier. The film also stars Clancy Brown, who has played some legendary villain roles throughout his career, some of which include Viking in Bad Boys, Kurgan in Highlander and Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption. You can also see him in A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) and Tales from the Crypt season five episode Half-Way Horrible. This film, like the first, features a song by The Ramones during the closing credits (Poison Heart). I really like Mark Governor's score for the film, unfortunately an official soundtrack was never released. The films first DVD release was on September 25th, 2001. I'd like to thank Eric Mofford for his help with this article.

Matthews house - 163 Seavy St. Senoia, Ga. 30276

The house was built in 1873. The large tree in the front yard was cut down at some point in 2016. Just a block north of the house, at 386 Pylant St, is the church looking structure seen behind Drew when he asks Jeff  if he'll help him bury Zowie.

Animal Hospital - 319 Johnson St. Senoia, Ga. 30276

Since the time of filming, three buildings have been constructed in between the Animal Hospital and the water tower. Senoia has also been a filming location for Fried Green Tomatoes and a number of scenes from The Walking Dead. As a matter of fact, the area surrounding Senoia is heavily populated with filming locations from the popular AMC series.

Gilbert house - 319 Johnson St. Senoia, Ga. 30276

The house was built in 1901 and is known as the Blount House. The house has been renovated considerably since the movie was filmed there. In the scene where Gus is chasing Amanda & Drew and they drive off in the station wagon, if you look closely at the front porch of the house across the street, you can see someone just sitting in a chair watching the whole scene being filmed.

Bridge - Travis St. and Bridge St. Senoia, Ga. 30276

The bridge is blocked off from vehicles and has only been used as a walking bridge for quite sometime. It was also renovated at some point, as it's a very old bridge. The scene from Fried Green Tomatoes, where Buddy is killed by the train was filmed on the train tracks under the bridge.

Micmac burial ground - 4158 Klondike Rd. Lithonia, Ga. 30038
(Arabia Mountain)

Arabia Mountain is the northern of two peaks in the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. A low saddle separates it from Bradley Mountain, several hundred feet to it's south. It's peak elevation is 955 feet. It's a former quarry and is composed of granite. From the parking lot trailhead, it's an approximately two mile round trip hike to the exact spot of where the Micmac was located in the film. On October 12th, 2006 it was designated as a National Heritage Area.

At the time of my visit, Stolfe & Zeigler Counselors at Law occupied the building used in the film. Some believe this location to be next door at the Music Academy, but after visiting for myself, I can confirm that as incorrect. The building that currently houses the Music Academy didn't exist in 1979.

Lutz house - 18 Brooks Rd. Toms River, NJ. 08753

A few years after the film was released, the owners of the house had it slightly moved and turned to where the front faces Brooks Rd. Prior to that, and the way it's seen in the film, the front of the house faced northwest, toward where E. Water St. and Dock St. connect. They also removed the front third floor attic level windows. The distinctive two quarter round windows that the house had become famous for were added by production solely for the purpose of duplicating the original house and they were removed after filming concluded. The house was also used as the exterior for Amityville II: The Possession and Amityville 3-D.

Real Amityville house - 108 Ocean Ave. Amityville, NY. 11701

In short, on November 13th, 1974 Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed six members of his family at the house, a large Dutch Colonial house situated in a suburban neighborhood in Amityville, on the south shore of Long Island, NY. He was convicted of second-degree murder in November 1975. On December 19th, 1975 George and Kathy Lutz along with their three children moved into the house. After twenty-eight days they left the house, claiming to be terrorized by paranormal phenomena during their time there. For anyone wanting the full back story, I urge you to read Jay Anson's The Amityville Horror: A True Story, first published on September 13, 1977. The house was built in 1927. It has changed owners five times since the murders occurred there, with the most recent being in 2017, when it was purchased for $605k, approximately $245k less than it sold for during it's previous sell in 2010, which was $950k. When the murders took place, the address of the house was 112. Sometime after, a different owner of the home had the address changed to 108.

Godzilla was released into theaters on May 20th, 1998. Filming locations include New York, NY. It was directed by Roland Emmerich, who's also responsible for sci-fi films Universal Soldier, Stargate and Independence Day. Danare was also in horror genre films Christine and Popcorn. The film had a fairly popular soundtrack which was headlined by the song Come With Me by Jimmy Page and Puff Daddy. It borrowed it's sound heavily from the 1975 Led Zeppelin song Kashmir, which Page co-wrote. The films first DVD release was on November 3rd, 1998.

Designed by architects Ithiel Town and Alexander Jackson Davis, the building opened in 1842. In 1882, John Quincy Adams Ward's bronze George Washington statue was erected on it's front steps, marking the approximate spot where he was inaugurated as the first president of the United States of America. Christian Bale can also be seen walking past this location in the 2000 film, American Psycho.

Halloween II was released into theaters on August 28th, 2009. Filming locations include Atlanta, Covington, Decatur, Farrar, Madison, Newborn and Oxford, Ga. Filming ran from February 23rd, 2009 to April 9th, 2009. Like the prior Halloween installment, two years earlier, this would also be directed by Rob Zombie. It brings back many of the same actors from the first film, along with a slew of recognizable actors scattered throughout. Zombie's first Halloween was filmed in California, however this one was filmed in Georgia. He stated the reason for this was because the locations he wanted to use were still experiencing snowy weather, plus filming in Georgia provided certain tax breaks. The film features mostly classic rock songs throughout, some of which include Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues and What's Your Name? by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The films first DVD release was on January 12th, 2010.

Rosemary's Baby was released into theaters on June 12th, 1968. Filming took place in New York, NY. Filming ran from August 21st, 1967 to December 6th, 1967. It was adapted from Ira Levin's novel of the same name. Roman Polanski directed the film. Thirty-one years later he'd go on to direct another satanic affiliated film, The Ninth Gate, starring Johnny Depp. Rosemary's Baby was the final film Polanski would direct before the tragic events of August 8th/9th, 1969 that saw members of the "Manson Family" murder is wife Sharon Tate, their eight and a half month old unborn child and three friends who were there visiting, at the home they were renting. Mia Farrow plays the lead of Rosemary Woodhouse. It has a fittingly eerie score by Krzysztof Komeda, which I really like. The films first DVD release was on October 3rd, 2000.

The Bramford - 1 W. 72nd St. New York, NY. 10023
(The Dakota)

Designed by architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, it was constructed between October 25th, 1880 and October 27th, 1884. It consists of ten stories and has sixty-five apartments, with no two being alike. For the first forty-five years of it's existence, The Dakota had no apartment vacancies. Hopeful residents must submit years of financial statements and tax documents, go through a background check and pay a fee of over one-thousand dollars. Even then, the board of directors can still reject them. Notable former residents include Judy Garland, Boris Karloff, John Lennon, John Madden, Joe Namath, Jack Palance and Rex Reed. On December 8th, 1980 John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman four times in the back at close range in the buildings archway entrance, after returning home from a recording session. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital a short while later. The building was designated a New York City Landmark on February 11th, 1969. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 26th, 1972 and was designated a National Historic Landmark on December 8th, 1976. Only the exteriors and the courtyard were used for filming, the interiors were sets built at Paramount Studios.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

$

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released into theaters on March 30th, 1990. Filming locations include Castle Hayne, Currie and Wilmington, NC. and Brooklyn and New York, NY. Filming ran from July 10th, 1989 to September 9th, 1989. It was directed by Steve Barron, in what was his first feature film. However, he was a music video directing machine during the 80's with fifty-six of them to his credit. The film was based more so on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics rather than the animated television show that ran from December 28th, 1987 to November 2nd, 1996. The Ninja Turtles' costumes were absolutely amazing, the level of detail and the range of their facial expressions were exceptional for the time. They were created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop in London. They were first made out of fiberglass, then remodeled out of clay. They were produced as molds to cast the whole body in foam rubber latex. It took around eighteen weeks for them to be completed. Henson stated that the creatures were the most advanced that he had ever worked with. Sadly, Henson passed away on May 16th, 1990, roughly one and a half month after the film was released. As a young child, I loved watching Fraggle Rock, another one of Jim Henson's brilliant creations.

A Number of scenes were shot at the old North Carolina Film Studios in Wilmington, today called EUE/Screen Gems Studios. Some of the scenes include the sewers, roof top fights, 2nd Time Around Antiques (interior & exterior), pizza delivery scene and when they return to the city when it's raining. Unfortunately, the backlot where most of these scenes took place was demolished  in the late 90's. Stage 10 now sits where the street set once was. The film has a solid soundtrack with my personal favorite song being Let the Walls Come Down by Johnny Kemp. It also features a limited, but phenomenal score by John Du Prez. The films first DVD release was on February 24th, 1998.

(City Hospital)

Also known as Penitentiary Hospital, Island Hospital and Charity Hospital. It was located on the southern portion of Roosevelt Island, in between Goldwater Memorial Hospital and the Smallpox Hospital. It was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. and built in 1861. On March 16th, 1972 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, but oddly enough it wasn't given protected landmark status and was demolished in 1994. Some of the stones from the hospital were salvaged and used to line the paths in Four Freedoms Park, on the south tip of Roosevelt Island. Today, the exact spot of the portion of the building that was seen in the film is occupied by Southpoint Park.

Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver was released into theaters on February 8th, 1976. Filming locations include New York, NY. The film impeccably depicts the gritty, grimy atmosphere of 1970's New York City. It was directed by Martin Scorsese, who makes two cameos in the film. The first time is when Travis sees Betsy while she's going into the Palantine campaign headquarters, Scorseses' checking her out as she walks by. The second being a very convincing cameo as a jealousy crazed taxi passenger. Robert De Niro plays the lead of Travis Bickle, who would go on to deliver one of the most famous lines in cinema history with "You talking to me?", while playing out possible scenarios to himself in the mirror. The films score was done by Bernard Herrmann, who also composed the very famous score for Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, sixteen years earlier. The films first DVD release was on September 9th, 1997.

The real driving force behind the soundtrack though, was Ray Parker Jr's Ghostbusters. It stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for twenty-one weeks. three of those being at number one. The score was composed by Elmer Bernstein. The films first DVD release was on February 1st, 2000.

The Godfather was released into theaters on March 14th, 1972. Filming locations include Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Ross, Ca. and Bronx, Brooklyn, Garden City, New York City, Pleasant Plains, Queens and Staten Island, NY. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who would also be at the helm of the second (1974) and third (1990) installments in the trilogy. He also directed horror genre film Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992. The Godfather was adapted from Mario Puzo's novel of the same name, which was published on March 10th, 1969. It remained on The New York Times Bestseller list for sixty-seven weeks and sold over nine-million copies in two years. Both Coppola and Puzo wrote the screenplay for the film, which they won an academy award for in 1973. The film also won Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Marlon Brando). On October 19th, 1990 the film was added to the National Film Registry. The score was composed by Nino Rota and won the 1973 Golden Globe for Best Original Score as well as the 1973 Grammy for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or TV Special. The films first DVD release was on October 9th, 2001. You'd be hard-pressed to find a respected movie critic who hasn't included the film in, at least their top three films of all time, and in most cases number one.

Corleone compound - 110 Longfellow Dr. Staten Island, NY. 10301

The central house of the compound was built in 1930. It's three stories tall with five bedrooms and 6,248 square feet. It's changed owners as recently as October 25th, 2016, when it sold for $2.4 million. The other portion of the compound is a completely separate house altogether, located at 120 Longfellow Ave. It was built in 1940. It's two stories tall with four bedrooms and 3,012 square feet. At the time of writing this article (6/19/19), it was on the market with an asking price of $1.3 million. To give the illusion that the Corleone residence was much larger and more imposing than it really was, the production constructed a fake gate and walls near the end of the dead-end street, in order to make it all look like one large property.

Sonny is gunned down - Near* Endo Dr. and Perimeter Rd. Garden City, NY. 11530
(Formerly Mitchel Air Force Base, runway 5/23)

Mitchel Air Force Base was in operation from 1917 to June 25th, 1961. Since it was decommissioned, chunks of the runways have given way to new development, with the most recent being in 2012. The surviving buildings and facilities were recognized as a historic district and added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 4th, 2018. Filming took place at the northern-most end of runway 5/23, which was the longest runway (6,700 ft.) at the base during it's time of operation. For the film, they built fake tollbooths on the abandoned former access road to runway 5/23. At the time of my visit, the exact spot where they constructed the tollbooths was fenced off and just out of my reach, as they were doing some kind of construction to the area. I got as close as I possibly could. I sincerely hope their current project doesn't include doing away with the precise spot from the film, as well as the only existing portion of runway from the former Air Force base that still remains.

Tremors was released into theaters on January 19th, 1990. Filming locations include Lone Pine and Olancha, Ca. It was directed by Ron Underwood. The two leads of Valentine McKee and Earl Bassett are played by Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward. It also stars Michael Gross, who would go on to reprise his character Burt Gummer, and Gummer's ancestors, in every sequel as well as the 2003 television series. The films score was done by Ernest Troost and Robert Folk in a non-collaborative effort. Troost's score has more of a western feel, using guitars and harmonicas whereas Folk's used violins and trumpets and was used for the more climatic scenes. The films first DVD release was on April 28th, 1998.

Perfection - Near *Cactus Flats Rd. Olancha, Ca. 93545

The town was a set that was built in roughly two months. After filming concluded, it was torn down. No remains from any of the structures are still there. Although, the dirt road that led through the town is still there as well as a replica "City of Perfection" sign marking the filming location.

Boulders that Earl, Valentine and Rhonda get stuck on - Movie Flat Rd. Lone Pine, Ca. 93545
(Alabama Hills)

A lot of movies were filmed in this area, some of which include Django Unchained (2012), Gladiator, Iron Man, Man of Steel and an abundance of old westerns. It's an amazing setting with the Eastern Sierras and the highest point in the continental United States (Mt. Whitney) in the background. Movie Flat Rd. was constructed back in the heyday of old westerns so the crews could get in and out of the filming locations easier. Aside from being a popular area for filming, it also seems to have and endless number of beautiful hikes. As a matter of fact, I wish I had more time there during my visit, for that very purpose. The group of boulders in the film are just a stones throw from Movie Flat Rd. Also, after visiting for myself, I can confirm that the boulders they pole vault onto must've been prop boulders brought in for the film because none of them are there in reality. My last comparison picture shows this.

Myself sitting on the boulder.

If you plan on visiting the Tremors filming locations in Lone Pine, or if you're just passing through the town, I highly recommend stopping at the Lone Pine Film Museum. It shows the history of filming in the area as well as screen used props from many of the films, including Tremors and some of the sequels. It's located at 701 S. Main St. Lone Pine, Ca. 93545.

Star Wars: A New Hope was released into theaters on May 25th, 1977. Filming locations include Death Valley National Park, England, Guatemala and Tunisia. Filming ran from March 22nd, 1976 to July 16th, 1976. The film was written and directed by George Lucas. The filming locations for Tatooine were split between Death Valley National Park and Tunisia. It was the first movie to make over $300 million dollars. The films score was done by John Williams, quite possibly the greatest film score conductor of all time. He would also go on to score every Star Wars film since. The film won six Academy Awards, which include Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. In 1989 it was added to the National Film Registry. The films first DVD release was on January 1st, 2004.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane was released into theaters on October 11th, 2013, seven years after it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 9th, 2006. This was due to ongoing distribution rights issues. Filming locations include Bastrop and Elgin, Tx. It was directed by Jonathan Levine, who also directed horror genre film Warm Bodies. Amber Heard stars as Mandy Lane. This was when she was still a relative newcomer. The movie features a few good songs like Our Lips Are Sealed by the Go-Go's and a pretty good cover of Sister Golden Hair by Juliette Commagere. The films first DVD release was on December 3rd, 2013. I'd like to thank Cameron Chambers for his help with this post.

Blink and you may miss it, but while they're driving they quickly pass by a run down building next to the road. The structure is actually the same one used as the gas station in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). This was the mid 2000's, when it was still known as Bilbo's Texas Landmark. If something doesn't quite look right about it, that's because they actually flipped the shot around, post production. I thought it was a nice little homage.

Edward Scissorhands was released into theaters on December 14th, 1990. Filming locations include Lutz, Fl. It was directed by Tim Burton. Johnny Depp played the lead of Edward Scissorhands. The two would also collaborate nine years later on the magnificent film, Sleepy Hollow, as well as a number of others. Like most of Burton's films, the score was composed by the talented Danny Elfman. The films first DVD release was on September 5th, 2000.

The neighborhood is located in the Carpenters Run sub-division. Unfortunately, there's no towering hill with a castle sitting atop at the end of the street. Instead, just a cul-de-sac with a small lake. The lack of trees and foliage seen in the neighborhood in the film, was because it had just been constructed one year prior to filming.

Day of the Dead was released into theaters on July 19th, 1985. Filming locations include Fort Myers and Sanibel, Fl. and Wampum, Pa. It was directed by George A. Romero. This was the third film of his "Dead" series. Romero is known as the "Godfather of the Dead" since he basically invented the modern zombie film genre with his 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead. All of the zombie extras in the film were paid one dollar each, given a hat that said "I was a Zombie in Day of the Dead" and a newspaper shown in the beginning of the film with the headline "The Dead Walk!" for their services. The films soundtrack was done by John Harrison, Jim Blazer and Sputzy Sparacino. The films first DVD release was on November 24th, 1998.

Bunker interior - 1605 Old Route 18 Wampum, Pa. 16157
(Wampum Underground Commerce Center)

From 1870 to 1946 the Crescent Stone Company mined the limestone for it's cement plant, located just on the other side of the highway.  In the mid-1950's the United States Air Force created an engineering study to create a bomb-proof storage depot at the site. However, they never followed through with the plan. The property would lay dormant until 1963, when Page Avjet, an aviation service company, and Medusa Cement Company jointly owned and developed the mine into the Wampum Mine Storage Company. Page Avjet became the sole owner in 1980. Wampum Underground Limited Partnership purchased the facility in 1994. In 2005, the facility again changed ownership, this time to Bruce-Wish Management. The current amount of developed space in the facility is 850,000 square-feet, with the potential for 2.5 million square feet. It measures one mile from end to end. It reaches two-hundred feet at it's deepest depth. The facilities physical structure consists of huge limestone pillars, up to thirty feet in diameter, which support a solid limestone ceiling. The natural ambient temperature is fifty-five degrees. I always found the underground facility the most interesting part of the film and imagined how neat it would be to just explore the entire thing. When I visited this location, I obviously didn't have access. However, the south entrance isn't sealed. Meaning, while you can't gain access, you still have an unobstructed view inside the entrance and can even feel it's natural temperature protruding through the door.

Friday Night Lights premiered on NBC and ran from October 3rd, 2006 to February 9th, 2011. Filming locations include Austin, Hutto, Manor, Pflugerville and Round Rock, Tx. The series was developed by Peter Berg, who directed two episodes as well, the season one Pilot and season four episode East of Dillon. He would also star in season two episode May the Best Man Win. Two years prior to the start of the series, Berg also directed the film adaption of Friday Night Lights which also starred Connie Britton and Brad Leland, who basically played the same roles as they would on the television series. Both the film and series, were inspired by the 1990 nonfiction book of the same name by H.G. Bissinger. The score was done by W.G. Snuffy Walden and Bennett Salvay.

At some point in 2017, the east-side press box shown in my first comparison picture, was removed for some reason. Pflugerville High School was also where the prom scenes from Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation were filmed.

East Dillon football field/fieldhouses - Flow Ln. and Del Valle St. Austin, Tx. 78617

This was the former site of De Valle High School. The school was built in 1956. In 2000, it was demolished after a new school building was built at another location. The football and baseball fields were left abandoned, but mostly intact. The former baseball field was used as East Dillon's football field. Bleacher's, goal posts and a scoreboard were brought in for filming and then removed after filming concluded. Both Dillon and East Dillon's fieldhouses were at this location. That building still exists, however it's gated off. The Panthers entrance was in the front of the building while the Lions entrance was in the rear of the building. The old De Valle football field was used as Dillon's football field in the later seasons of the series. That same field was re-painted and also used as an away teams field when East Dillon played at the Mavericks in season four. When I visited this location I was somewhat amazed at how much it had changed and become overgrown during the eight years since the final season was filmed. I arrived to a large number of deer hopping and leaping through the fields. The stands to the old football field were still partly intact, however quite gutted. No bleachers and no press boxes. The wood was so rotten that I had to be careful where I stepped. There were even trees growing up through the stands. There's a Quality Inn close by and I bet that 99.9% of the people who stay there have no idea that scenes from one of the best television dramas ever were filmed right behind where they're staying the night.

Speeder bike chase - Hwy. 36 Carlotta, Ca. 95528
(Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, Owen R. Cheatham Grove)

The point of view shots for the sequence were done by having a camera mounted on a rig attached to an operator who walked through the grove at a steady pace with the camera filming one frame per second. When the footage was played back at twenty-four frames per second, it gave the illusion of flying through the forest at high speeds. The actors did all of their shots in front of a green screen in the studio. On the third comparison picture below, the filmmakers actually reversed the shot and in reality it's backwards from what you see on the screen. This is a relatively small grove, but it contains some massive, breathtaking trees. The hike is a short loop, with the first recognizable shot from the film near the beginning of the path if you start on the right side. I'd enjoy visiting this grove regardless of if it was featured in a Star Wars movie or not.

I'll admit, while the movie has some of the cheesiest and cringe-worthy (human) characters I've ever seen on film, the clown costumes were quite impressive, from both a design and physical aspect. Zodiac was released into theaters on March 2nd, 2007. Filming locations include Napa and San Francisco, Ca. It was directed by David Fincher. To say Fincher is a talented director would be a bit of an understatement. Aside from Zodiac, he's directed such films as Alien 3, Fight Club, The Game, Gone Girl and Seven as well as a large number of late 80's/early 90's music videos and my personal favorite Nike commercial (Instant Karma). Zodiac features an impressive cast, some of which include Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Brian Cox and Elias Koteas. The film features some good music from the time period when the murders occurred, Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan and Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty to name a couple. The films first DVD release was on July 24th, 2007. The first time I watched it I was captivated. It was based on actual case files and I think that's a large part of the films appeal, the fact that it was so true to the real life events of the case. For anyone who'd like to know all the details of the case, I highly recommend Robert Graysmith's book  Zodiac. Graysmith is who Jake Gyllenhaal portrays in the film. During a recent trip to northern California I was able to visit a couple locations from the film, which were also two of the real life murder locations from the Zodiac case.

Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard are attacked - Knoxville Rd. Napa, Ca. 94558
(Lake Berryessa, Oak Shores)

The attack occurred on September 27th, 1969. Hartnell survived eight stab wounds to the back but Shepard died as a result of her injuries. The lake is over 20,000 acres when full. It's approximately 15.5 miles long and 3 miles wide. Near the dam on the southeast side of the reservoir is an open bell-mouth spillway. The pipe has a straight drop of two-hundred feet. In 1997, a woman was killed after being sucked into the spillway.

The Blair Witch Project was released into theaters on July 14th, 1999. Filming locations include Adamstown, Beallsville, Brookville, Burkittsville, Germantown and Granite, Md. It was directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez. The film took eight days to shoot, and roughly eight months to edit, due to there being roughly twenty hours of raw footage to sort through. It stars Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael Williams as the three unfortunates who fall victim to the Blair Witch. The film was marketed as a true story which added to it's appeal. Just prior to it's theatrical release, a forty-four minute improvised documentary titled Cure of the Blair Witch was even released, to further insinuate this strategy. It told more of the backstory of the three missing students. Immediately following it's release, the town of Burkittsville, which the cemetery scene was filmed at, became overrun with fans of the film. They even stole the town sign a reported three times. The film is heavily credited with popularizing the found-footage technique. Although effective, it also caused some theatergoers to experience nausea and vomit during the screening. At one point in the film, the Blair Witch was supposed to be seen on camera. However, the cameraman forgot to pan left during a running sequence and the scene was never re-shot. The film cost $60,000 to make and grossed $248 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing independent movie of all-time, until it was surpassed in 2002. The films first DVD release was on October 22nd, 1999.

Black Hills Forest - Black Rock Rd. Germantown, Md. 20874
(Seneca Creek State Park)

I visited the area in September, before the leaves started to change color, and it was picturesque for hiking. I can only imagine how beautiful it looks in it's full Fall glory. Among locations from the film I visited here were where the two guys were fishing, the shed they drive past, where they park their car and Coffin Rock. The two guys were fishing on the north side of Great Seneca Creek, near the bridge that crosses over the creek (east of the bridge). They park their car next to Black Rock Road, about a quarter of a mile north of the bridge. The shed is just north of where they park, around the corner. In order to reach Coffin Rock, park in the small parking area next to Black Rock Mill, on the southwest side of the bridge. Directly across the street from the mill there will be a path that leads east. Follow this path for about five minutes along the creek and you'll eventually reach Coffin Rock.

House at the end - West of* Hernwood Rd. and Offutt Ct. Granite, Md. 21163
(Patapsco Valley State Park, Woodstock Area 16, Griggs House)

The house was constructed in the mid 19th century. By the time filming had occurred at the house, it was in a state of disrepair. The following three years after the films release, many fans visited the structure, noting just how bad of shape it was in and unsafe it was. It was demolished in 2003 and the only remains I could find during my visit were two pipes protruding out of the ground. This area is now primarily used for hunting so enter at your own risk.
