Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2 were released into theaters on October 10th, 2003 and April 16th, 2004. Filming locations include Los Angeles, Victorville and Yermo, Ca. They were written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. These were the fourth and fifth films directed by Tarantino. Uma Thurman played the lead of Beatrix Kiddo (The Bride). These were the second and third films that Tarantino and Thurman collaborated on. It would also be the last, due to an accident Thurman had while filming the scene where she drives to Bill. According to Thurman, she was uncomfortable driving the car and asked a stunt driver to do it; Tarantino assured her that the car and road were safe. She lost control of the car and hit a tree, suffering a concussion and damage to her knees. Tarantino has built up an informal "repertory company" of actors who have appeared in multiple roles in films that he has directed. Samuel L. Jackson has appeared in more of Tarantino's films than any other actor, with six to date, including Rufus in Kill Bill Volume 2. Notable songs from the film include About Her by Malcolm McLaren, Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) by Nancy Sinatra and Woo Hoo by The 5.6.7.8's. The film's first DVD releases were on April 13th, 2004 and August 10th, 2004.

Rocky

Rocky was released into theaters on November 21st, 1976. Filming locations include Philadelphia, Pa. It was directed by John G. Avildsen. Avildsen would also direct Rocky V, fourteen years later, as well as The Karate Kid Trilogy. He passed away on June 16th, 2017. Sylvester Stallone wrote the script in roughly three and a half days, inspired by the Muhammad Ali/Chuck Wepner fight. Stallone was reportedly so broke at the time, he had to sell his dog because he couldn't afford to feed him. He was offered $350,000 for his script, but he refused to sell unless they let him star in the film. They agreed, and Stallone played the part of Rocky Balboa for scale as well as continuing to do rewrites. A week after selling his dog, he bought him back. The dog was Butkus, the Bull Mastiff seen in the film. Rocky was the launching point that would propel Stallone into one of the most well known actors of all-time, specifically in the action genre. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning three. Wins include Best Picture, Best Director and Best Film Editing. It was added to the National Film Registry in 2006. The score was composed by Bill Conti. The films first DVD release was on March 24th, 1997.

He's running north along S. 9th St. toward Christian St. While this scene was being filmed, no one along the street market knew that a movie was being made. Their looks of curiousness, as seen on film, were all genuine. And the moment where the man tosses Rocky a piece of fruit, was a spontaneous reaction that Sylvester Stallone wasn't expecting. It looked good in the film, so the director kept it in.

Rocky steps - 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. Philadelphia, Pa. 19130
(Philadelphia Museum of Art)

Construction on the museum began in 1919 and finished in 1928. The architectural firms of Horace Trumbauer and Zantzinger, Borie and Medary collaborated on the project. The museum houses over 240,000 pieces of art. The 72 stone steps (Rocky steps) on the museum's east entrance are one of Philadelphia's biggest tourist attractions. Rocky can be seen ascending the steps in every film in the series, with the exception of Rocky IV. In The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode "The Philadelphia Story", Will Smith runs up the steps while training for a fight with a neighborhood bully. Reebok filmed a commercial for the A7's, where Allen Iverson dribbles a basketball up the steps. An 8 foot, 6 inch tall, two ton bronze statue of Rocky was commissioned by Stallone in 1980 and placed at the top of the steps for the filming of Rocky III.  After filming was complete, Stallone donated the statue to the city of Philadelphia. On September 8th, 2006 the statue was placed on a pedestal in a grassy area on the north side at the base of the stairs. In the former spot of the statue, now lies a bronze inlay of Converse sneaker footprints with the name "Rocky" above them.

Tales From the Darkside: The Movie was released into theaters on May 4th, 1990. Filming locations include Bronxville, NY. It was directed by John Harrison. Harrison was a Tales From the Darkside veteran, already directing eight episodes of the television series, prior to the film. He's also directed two episodes of the Tales From the Crypt television series as well as three episodes of the Creepshow television series. Julianne Moore played Susan in Lot 249, in what was her first role in a feature film. Debbie Harry of Blondie fame, played Betty, in The Wraparound Story. Seven years prior, she starred in David Cronenberg's Videodrome. She can also been seen in Monsters episode Desirable Alien and John Carpenter's Body Bags. Many fans consider this to be the third film of the Creepshow franchise. The second segment, Cat From Hell, was originally intended for Creepshow 2. However, it was dropped for budgetary reasons. The score for each segment, was composed by someone different. The Wraparound Story was done by Donald Rubinstein, Lot 249 by Jim Manzie and Pat Regan, Cat From Hell by Chaz Jankel and Lover's Vow by John Harrison. The films first DVD release was on September 25th, 2001.

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers was released into theaters on February 28th, 1988. Filming locations include Waco, Ga. Filming took place from September 20th, 1987 to October 9th, 1987. It was directed by Michael A. Simpson. Simpson also directed the third installment of the trilogy, Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland. Pamela Springsteen, younger sister of musician Bruce Springsteen, played the lead of Angela. The score was composed by James Oliverio. The films first DVD release was on August 20th, 2002. Anchor Bay released it as a single edition as well as part of the Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit, which featured all three films of the trilogy in a package meant to resemble a first aid kit. The first 20,000 copies featured a large red cross on the cover. Shortly after it was released, the Red Cross contacted Anchor Bay to inform them that the use of the red cross insignia was restricted by the Geneva Convention. All copies from that point on did not bear the red cross insignia, instead they had the words "Survival Kit" in dripping blood font.

Camp Rolling Hills - In between* Five Points Rd. and Bremen Mount Zion Rd. Waco, Ga. 30182

It was filmed almost entirely at an actual former YMCA summer camp, named Camp Waco. In September of 2020, myself and fellow movie location visitor, Brian Koppel of Reel to Real Movie and TV Filming Locations visited the location for ourselves. Access to the former camp wasn't easy. There's no way to park close to it, since it's in the middle of the woods, so a fairly long walk to the location is required. The area is also extremely overgrown, as the following comparison pictures will show. It's also frequently used for hunting, so that's another hazard. We spotted multiple tree stands in the area. Most of the structures seen in the film have either been razed, or just fallen down over the years. However, a few are still standing. Among them are some of the campers cabins and bathroom structures. The swimming pool is still there, however, heavy growth from the leaves of kudzu vines surround it. The upper floor of the main structure, seen in the film, are all gone. However, most of the two stone chimney's remain, as do small sections of the stone walls. The lower level of the main structure is also partly still intact.
